31 July - Day 5 - Paris Summer Olympic Games

Lots of great sport on Day 5!  Let's get to it! Triathlon :  I started my day off with the Women's Triathlon.  There was some confusion at the start.  It seemed as though not everyone could here the signal at once.  No one was called back or penalized but there probably should have been some action.  The women swam down the middle of the Seine which has an especially strong current right now due to the recent rains.  They took advantage of it on the way out and then went right to the bank for the swim back, where the current wasn't as strong.  The current of the Seine made the water portion of the Triathlon "mean" more to the overall performance than we are use to.  After the swim, the athletes had to climb stairs (which is just mean!) and switch to the bike.  It had rained again before the race and the roads were ESPECIALLY SLICK!  The Cycling portion end up being a crash-fest!  So many riders went down that I was happy...

Triathlon has been delayed twice now.  They say it will be contested by both men and women.   Equestrian :  The Dressage Grand Prix started today which is a Team competition.  One of the US horses (Jane) was a bit uppity just before competing and must have cut her leg while she was acting up.  About midway through the routine, the Vet staff, pulled Orlob and Jane from the competition.  Team USA is out of the medals for Dressage.  Jane should be fine.  Team USA is heart-broken. BMX Park:  Team USA qualified riders in both the Men's and Women's competition.  Some really cool tricks were thrown, especially by the guys.  Should be an exciting finals! Men's Waterpolo :  Team USA beat Romania 14 - 8.  A much better showing in Pool Play Women's Rugby 7s:  Team USA lost its Semifinal round to New Zealand which sent them to the Bronze medal game versus Australia.  I thought we were done since the Aussies had t...

Today is my birthday and I'm wishing for Gold medals, though any medals will do, and rain today! So what happened in Day 3....here we go: Men's Gymnastics:  The boys are back in town and boy did they ever perform!  They stuck so many landings, flew through the air, and tamed that pommel horse!    They had some help with Team GB having some horrible vaults and both China and Japan making mistakes.  But, in the end they did their jobs and got it done and brought home the Bronze medal for the Team event!  So very proud of these guys!  They will be back on Wednesday for the All Around and Event finals. Men's 10 M Platform Synchro Diving:  Team USA did not qualify a team for this event so I rooted for Team GB, since Daley lives in the US now.  As has been the norm in diving, China had the Gold wrapped up from the start.  The fight was for Silver and Bronze.  Daley and his new partner (his 5th!), Williams, secured the Silver early ...
