30 July - Day 4 - Paris Summer Olympic Games

Triathlon has been delayed twice now.  They say it will be contested by both men and women.

Equestrian:  The Dressage Grand Prix started today which is a Team competition.  One of the US horses (Jane) was a bit uppity just before competing and must have cut her leg while she was acting up.  About midway through the routine, the Vet staff, pulled Orlob and Jane from the competition.  Team USA is out of the medals for Dressage.  Jane should be fine.  Team USA is heart-broken.

BMX Park:  Team USA qualified riders in both the Men's and Women's competition.  Some really cool tricks were thrown, especially by the guys.  Should be an exciting finals!

Men's Waterpolo:  Team USA beat Romania 14 - 8.  A much better showing in Pool Play

Women's Rugby 7s:  Team USA lost its Semifinal round to New Zealand which sent them to the Bronze medal game versus Australia.  I thought we were done since the Aussies had the lead but then with like 10 seconds left in the match, the Eagles got the ball and ran almost the full length of the field to score right in the middle which let us kick a REALLY easy kick and win the Bronze!  Way to go Ladies!  New Zealand ended up with Gold.  Canada won Silver.

Men's Beach Volleyball:  Team USA's Partain and Benesh had to face the heat of the day and Team Morrocco today.  With a second set that just wouldn't end, Team USA finally took match point and the second set 28-26.  They looked much better today than versus Cuba.

Team USA's Evans and Budinger had to face a VERY good Team Netherlands today.  The heat really seemed to be bothering Evans, who was definitely off his game today.  Netherlands took it in two sets.

Men's Indoor Volleyball:  Team USA faced off against Team Germany and well, our guys got a little cocky.   They took the first two games but then Germany came back and took the next two.  Our guys had to get their heads back in the game and won a heart-pounding 5th set to take the match.  They learned their lesson, I think.  Can't wait to see them again!

3x3 Basketball:  Both the men and women of Team USA competed today and both LOST THEIR MATCHES!  I really can't believe that Team USA performed so poorly.  I hope they can turn this around!

Men's Soccer:  Team USA actually won against Guinea!

Women's Gymnastics:  OMG!  Team USA was on point the whole time!  They had the best rotation order, in my opinion with Vault, Bars, Beam, and Vault.

Vault....the girls flew and had good landings.  Bars...Nice routines!  Suni had one scary moment but kept it going and finished strong!  Beam...Jordan fell on her mount but then just used that anger to hit the rest of the routine.  Floor....sooo good!  Suni was having fun, Jordan rocked it, and Simone...last competitor to go...wowza!  She did step out on her third pass and actually rolled her eyes at her mistake...it was hilarious!  Team USA wins GOLD!

The rest of the field....well, China was plagued with falls and errors which left the door open!  Italy, Brazil, and Team GB were battling it out for Silver and Bronze.  In the end, Team Italy was able to pull out the Silver and Team Brazil won the Bronze.

I have to say, that if there was a Leotard fashion show, Team USA, Team Brazil, and Team GB would win hands down!  Team Italy...yeah, ladies...off-white is not your color!

Swimming:  Team USA started off qualifiers well with everyone moving through except Urlando in the Men's 200 Fly and Grimes in the Women's 1500 Free.

In the evening, we had Semifinals first.  In Men's 100M Free Guiliano and Alexy made it through to the finals.  In Men's 200 Fly, Heilman just missed out on the finals.  In Women's 100M Free, both Gretchen Walsh and Tori Huske made it through to the finals.  In Men's 200 M Breaststroke, Matheny made it to the finals but Fallon did not.

In Women's 100M Backstroke, the Aussies proved to be the fastest and took the Gold while Team USA took Silver (Regan Smith) and Bronze (Berkoff)

In the Men's 800M Free, the swimmer from Ireland surprised the field and took the Gold.  Bobby Finke of Team USA took the Silver, and Italy won the Bronze.

In the Men's 4 X 200 Relay, Team USA swam their hardest but just couldn't catch Team GB today!  Team GB was swimming at a whole other level!  Team GB takes Gold, Team USA takes the Silver and Team Australia takes the Bronze.

Sailing competition has started but I haven't had a chance to catch up on what's been going on there.  Hopefully I will get to it tomorrow.

Tomorrow:  More swimming, including the return of Katie Ledecky, Men's gymnastics individual event and all-around, volleyball, more 3x3, and Triathlon.
