❄️ Day 12: Golden Slaloms and Overtime Obsession 🏒

It was a day where "risk" was the name of the game. Whether it was charging down a snowy mountain or navigating a curling sheet that had seen a bit too much sandpaper, Day 12 delivered the kind of drama only the Olympics can provide.

⛷️ Women’s Slalom: The Queen Reclaims Her Crown

This was the moment we were all waiting for. Mikaela Shiffrin didn't just win; she made a statement. After the first round, she had a commanding lead, and she didn't let up for a second in the second run.

  • The Result: 🥇 Mikaela Shiffrin (USA) took the Gold with a massive 1.50-second lead—the largest margin in nearly 40 years!

  • The Podium: 🥈 Camille Rast (Switzerland), 🥉 Anna Swenn Larsson (Sweden).

  • History Made: Mikaela is now the most decorated U.S. woman in Olympic Alpine history. What a legend!

🥌 Curling: A Tale of Two Sheets

It was a rollercoaster on the ice today.

  • The Women: Our girls absolutely smoked Denmark 10-3, looking unstoppable. But then came the match against Great Britain. We had them on the ropes, but our skip just missed the last rock of the 10th end, allowing a steal. GB is still in the mix, and we’re kicking ourselves for that one!

  • The Men: A tough outing against the home team. Italy took the win, fueled by a crowd that was so loud you could probably hear them in Rome.

🚀 Aerials: Flying Through the Aftermath

The snow storm was no joke—14 inches of fresh powder! It pushed the schedule back, but they finally got the "fliers" in the air.

  • The Results: It was a big day for the Asian and Australian powerhouses.

    • 🥇 Xu Mengtao (China) successfully defended her title.

    • 🥈 Danielle Scott (Australia) took the Silver.

    • 🥉 Shao Qi (China) grabbed the Bronze.

  • Team USA: We had Kalia Kuhn and Winter Vinecki in the super final, finishing 5th and 6th respectively. So close!

🏂 Snowboard Slopestyle: The Subjective Slide

The judging on this has been EXTREMELY frustrating!   With 40% of the score being subjective, it felt like the judges were looking for a very specific "vibe" today.

  • The Women: The snow was so slow that they started calling it "velcro snow"!  Japan dominated the style points. 🥇 Mari Fukada (Japan), 🥈 Zoi Sadowski-Synnott (New Zealand), 🥉 Kokomo Murase (Japan).

  • The Men: The men competed earlier in the day and their snow was wicked fast!  The tricks were amazing ! 🥇 Su Yiming (China) took gold on his birthday, 🥈 Taiga Hasegawa (Japan) took silver.

  • Team USA Proud: Jake Canter grabbed the Bronze with an absolutely spectacular, clean routine. He should be incredibly proud of that run!

🎿 Cross-Country: The Sprint to the Finish

  • Men’s Team Sprint: King Johannes Klæbo took Gold for Norway, but Team USA (Ben Ogden and Gus Schumacher) stayed right on his heels! They took a massive chance before the last switch and brought home a historic Silver.

  • Women’s Team Sprint: Sweden took the Gold, Switzerland the Silver, and Germany surprised everyone with the Bronze. Our girls (Jessie Diggins and Julia Kern) fought hard but finished 5th.

⛸️ Short Track: Elbows, Lunges, and "Team Orange" Drama

If you want to see pure chaos on ice, this was the night.

  • Men’s 500m: Canada’s Steven Dubois skated like he was shot out of a cannon. He took a huge gamble by leading from the front—not his usual style—and successfully held off the Dutch "Van 't Wout" brothers in a photo finish to snatch the Gold. 🥈 Melle van 't Wout and 🥉 Jens van 't Wout (Netherlands) had to settle for the remaining steps.

  • Women’s 3000m Relay: This was a mess in the best way possible. The defending champion Dutch team crashed out with 16 laps to go, turning the race into a three-way sprint. South Korea (🥇 Gold) kept their cool, with Kim Gilli making a legendary lunge at the finish line to beat out Italy (🥈 Silver) and Canada (🥉 Bronze).

🎿 Biathlon Relay: French Sharpshooters

The French women put on a masterclass in how to handle pressure. Despite an early penalty loop that put them back in 16th place, they clawed their way back with "lights out" shooting.

  • The Victory: Anchor Julia Simon skated the final leg like a victory lap, waving the French flag as she crossed the line. They finished nearly a minute ahead of the field!

  • The Podium: 🥇 France, 🥈 Sweden, 🥉 Norway. Team USA put in a gutsy performance but couldn't quite match the pace of the European powerhouses.

🏒 Men’s Hockey Quarterfinals: Overtime Magic

If your heart rate hasn't come down yet, I don't blame you.

  • Canada vs. Czechia: Canada narrowly avoided a disaster. After blowing a lead, they went to overtime where Mitch Marner scored the winner to take it 4-3.

  • USA vs. Sweden: Another nail-biter! It was a defensive battle that went into OT at 1-1. Then, Quinn Hughes played the hero, scoring the game-winner to send us to the semis with a 2-1 victory!
