❄️ Day 6 - Part 2 Frozen Hearts and Flying Blades

If the morning was about surviving the "bucking bronco" of the mountain, the evening was about the razor-thin margins between gold and silver—and a whole lot of physical hockey.

🏒 Men’s Hockey: USA Silences the "Whine"

Final Score: USA 5, Latvia 1

The NHL stars are officially back, and they didn’t disappoint! It was a gritty, physical game where the Latvians seemed more interested in lobbyist work with the referees than playing the puck. Despite their constant appeals for whistles, Team USA stayed focused.

  • The Highlights: Brock Nelson was a beast with two goals, while Brady Tkachuk, Tage Thompson, and Captain Auston Matthews all found the back of the net.

  • The Standings: With this win, the U.S. is sitting pretty at 1-0 in Group C.

⛸️ Women’s 5000m: Italy’s Speed Queen

It’s Francesca Lollobrigida! The home crowd was deafening as she skated a tactical masterpiece.

  • The Race: She looked like she might fade, but she dug deep, swung those arms, and powered home to a Gold medal finish.

  • The Podium: 🥇 Francesca Lollobrigida (Italy), 🥈 Merel Conijn (Netherlands), 🥉 Ragne Wiklund (Norway).

🛷 Sliding Center: Skeleton & Luge Relays

  • Men’s Skeleton (Heats 1 & 2): Team USA is hanging in there with some of the best gear on the ice. Austin Florian sits in 13th and Daniel Barefoot is in 19th. We’ve got two more heats tomorrow to see if they can jump into the top 10!

  • Luge Team Relay: This event is pure chaos in the best way.

    • The Result: Team USA (Ashley Farquharson, Jonny Gustafson, and the doubles teams of Mueller/Haugsjaa and Forgan/Kirkby) fought hard for 5th.

    • 🥇 Germany, 🥈 Austria, 🥉 Italy.

🏂 Women’s Halfpipe: A Silver Heartbreak

The "Three-Peat" was so close! Chloe Kim tried to land a massive back-to-back 1080/1260 combo, but she unfortunately sat down on the final landing.

  • The Podium: 🥇 Choi Gaon (South Korea) – Just 17 years old and beat Chloe by only 2.25 points. 🥈 Chloe Kim (USA), 🥉 Mitsuki Ono (Japan).

  • The Scare: It was a brutal night. Mitsuki Ono (Japan) had a scary fall but recovered for bronze. The snowboarder taken off for caution was Queralt Castellet (Spain); luckily, reports say she is doing okay!

⛸️ Short Track: The "Restart" Curse

Short track is the only sport where you can race the same 500 meters three times before it counts!

  • Women’s 500m: Team USA was plagued by those early-lap falls and restarts. After three tries, we just couldn't keep our feet.

    • 🥇 Xandra Velzeboer (Netherlands), 🥈 Arianna Fontana (Italy), 🥉 Courtney Sarault (Canada).

  • Men’s 1000m: Canada’s William Dandjinou was the favorite and led almost the whole way, but he got boxed out in a wild final two laps.

    • 🥇 Jens van 't Wout (Netherlands), 🥈 Sun Long (China), 🥉 Rim Jongun (Korea).

🥌 Men’s Curling: Team Casper’s First Test

Final: Switzerland 8, USA 3

A rough night for Team Casper. Danny Casper and his young crew (Luc Violette, Ben Richardson, and Aidan Oldenburg) were just a fraction of an inch off on their weight all night against a clinical Swiss team. We move to 1-1, but this "new generation" of U.S. curling is just getting started.
